ABOUT

MATTHYS BEUKES

I got into cycling from the day I can remember, doing my first MTB race at age 7 during the
Knysna Oyster Festival in 1994. Now looking back at close to 30 years of trying to go from point A
to point B as quickly as possible I am very fortunate to be able to refer to cycling as my job for the
majority of those years.

Results wise I have been able to achieve some results I never thought possible as a youngster…
South African National MTB Series winner in both Cross Country and Marathon, Absa Cape Epic
stage wins, 3 x Attakwas Extreme Winner, 3 x Wines 2 Whales winner, 4 x Sani 2 Sea winner.

However, I do prefer to compare myself with the best in the world and am very proud of 3 x World
Champs top20 results and a 7th in the 2019 UCI Marathon World Ranking.

There is one result that trumps them all though, family.
I am very lucky to have my wife, Michele by my side and our 2 daughters, Annabel and Klara
keeping us on our toes!

End 2021 I decided to walk away from bike racing, choosing to focus time and energy on building
my own coaching business Synergy Cycle Sports.

Coaching is my true love and passion as I find it very rewarding to see improvement at any level.
I’m blessed with an amazing client base that in only 2 years managed to get some incredible
results that include 14 National Championship gold medals at track, road, MTB Cross Country
and MTB Marathon races.

Now in 2024, I returned to racing thanks to a late call up from Valley Electrical / Titan Racing.
It’s been awesome being part of a “small” team and we have shown some great potential so far.

I am forever grateful to the team and sponsors for making it possible for an old horse like me to
come back and see what I can do! The best is yet to come and I am very much looking forward to
giving it 100% as I go into the twilight years of going from point A to point B as fast as possible!
