ABOUT

ISABELLA (IZZY) STERMIN

I was introduced to mountain biking at age 8 when my family moved to the Durbanville area, which has easy access to the local MTB trail network. My Dad enrolled me in a youth riding team, and I soon started competing in mountain bike short track events (XCO).

In the last four years I have raced at a provincial and national level, across several cycling disciplines including mountain bike, road cycling, track cycling, downhill, enduro and BMX.
I also have a love for swimming and running, and combining these sports with cycling allows me to cross-train (and not get bored!). In 2024 I won SA Xterra Champs after combining all three sports (swimming, mountain biking & trail running).

My dream is to compete at the Olympics one day, and until that day arrives, my goal is to be better than I was yesterday. As the saying goes; “hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard”.
